Movie Opener Brainstorming & Research
Rise:
The camera angles in this clip were meticulously planned. I noticed that it made the audience feel like they are in the situation themselves. It also provides insight into the lives of the character and adds an upbeat mood to the film. The music transitions were notable, ranging from quiet to louder. The film is especially intriguing because it ends on a cliffhanger with the two guys staring each other down. The film also uses close ups which shows what the film is focused on. It varied from the characters emotions to gearing up to play soccer.
Dear Lover:
The music and backdrop in the beginning set the ideal scene for a sad concept. The camera angles showed nice angles showing the river and movement of the water. The voice over adds to the sadness in the character's voice and gives the idea of a documentary or story telling film.
Dare to Thrill:
This picture has a lot of energy, and the characters appear to be at a party or just enjoying their time as young kids. The shots of the car driving away and making turns really drew me into the film. The plot twist that occurred when they opened the trunk was surprising and you could tell it wasnt going to be very good because the upbeat music stopped. It was a solid film with fluid camera angles and transitions that kept an audience glued to the short film.
Always Watching:
In the beginning, the man spoke as if he was angry. The lighting was not the best as it was dark with one area of light behind the character. The music was appropriate for the suspense and drama. The fast flashes in between some of the character speaking and walking in different places also added suspense and we very creative. These cuts added to the suspense of the film.
The Blue Boar:
The clothing helped set the scene and it also created a sense of time. The music seems to match the emotions of the girl singing. The trees and forest setting adds a nice setting and colorful scene which benefits the film. The film also uses closeups to show the characters face when singing which gives the sense that she is singing at the time of the filming.
White Coat:
I don't like how the beginning is almost too dark to see what's going on. There was no conversation and all you could see were a few liquids being mixed together, which was a little perplexing. I can assume that something horrible is about to happen to the patient, but I'd want to know a little more.
Stalker:
This film is much quieter compared to the other films. The quick cuts and quiet setting gave the sense of horror which was an accurate representation of the film. The acting seemed forced but it did get its point across. The sudden little spot of music added to the scariness and suspense to the film. I liked the heartbeat as it shows the film is speeding up and it is a key feature to the horror aspect.
Nostalgia:
The transitions between actual life and the paintings were very interesting as it seemed as if it was real life or that the paintings were symbolizing something. The music is just calming and matches the sense that the artwork brings. As the film ends the music gets louder as it show the girl in real life looking to the sky instead of cutting to a piece of artwork.
Summary:
I believe that the performed camera angles were a crucial part of conveying emotion in the films. A certain mood can be portrayed by different camera angles and lightings which can help an audience understand meaning behind a film. This including music and sound that is appropriate for the topic which can make a huge difference as well in giving suspense or foreshadowing.. Lighting can make a difference when it based on if it is dark or light. Overall, all these elements add to the emotion and message an film maker is trying to portray.
