Mise-en-scene

I have decided to comment on the show Riverdale mostly because this tv series gives a good representation of Mise-en-scene. Riverdale is based off of a story in a small town, where the main characters consist of high school students. This makes it very easy to spot a variety of sets, costumes, lighting, and forms of acting.      Beginning with the setting, the show gives a great visual of where Riverdale is located. Riverdale is the small town in which the show takes place, where there is not much that surrounds the town. Some of the different stages set in the show are from Riverdale's high school, the main characters' houses, the small town diner, and the local gym in which one of the characters, Archie, owns. As the show progresses, each of these locations have an increased meaning and value to the cast and audience. The high school and diner act as safe havens for when a problem has risen. The character's homes are usually used as meeting spots fo...

Five Master Edits With Sound

Music: I added music to the clip showing the Rock in our contrast clip because the song represents the Rock. The Rock is a very strong man and this can be heard through the song he is featured in. As he states that he has something "cooking", the audience can tell that the Rock is someone that shouldn't be messed with while Uriel doesn't know what he is up against. This is also a form of a non-diegetic sound as the audience can hear the background music however the people in the live clip cannot. Non-Diegetic: An example of non-diegetic sound in our short film would be during the symbolism clip. The sound of a calm river when showing a little bowl of water compared to a waterfall sound when showing a much larger body of water in the pool, highlights the difference in the amount of water. Only the audience can hear this audio which is why it is non-diegetic but it also gives the audience a better sense of how much water the pool holds compared to a small bowl. Music:...

Five Master Edits in a Professional Film

Symbolism:      In this short clip from the TV series, Money Heist, it represents symbolism. The Professor explains to the heist members what they will be robbing and it is the Bank of Spain. This is symbolism because the Professor had mad a replica of the bank and then the scene quickly cuts to the inside of the actual bank. The replica was just used to symbolize the bank and to help the heist members plan their heist as well as allow the audience to see what was being robbed. The replica was very small in size compared to the real Bank of Spain, therefore giving the idea of symbolism. Parallelism:     In the intro of The Benchwarmers, there are multiple baseball games being played that all occur at different times. This represents the edit of parallelism because the shots are of the same actions, just at different places and years. For example, the first shot was shot at Wrigley Field in the late 1900s, whereas the next shot was taken of Babe Ruth in th...

Five Master Edits

Image
Contrast: The first scene shows a contrast between the body type of the Rock and Uriel. The Rock is who Uriel believes he looks like but in reality he is just a typical teenager who is quite the opposite of the Rock.  Symbolism: The second scene shows the symbolism of two objects holding water. One clip is just a bowl of water that quickly transitions into a pool that is much larger than the bowl. This demonstrates the similarity between the two objects but also the difference in size resulting in symbolism. Simultaneity: This scene shows two different people swinging at two different locations. There is Uriel acting like he is swinging in class while an actual baseball player is taking swings outside at the same time. Both shots are clearly in the early afternoon and portray the swinging action seen in the sport baseball. Parallelism: This scene shows the space of Ms.Henderson's room at two different times. The first clip shows the beginning of class when all the students ar...
